CONSISTENCY! Is a major key toward reaching your goals, ideals, and really learning how to be confident in yourself.
Being consistent and finding BALANCE in the foods you are choosing is also a great part of your success.
PORTION CONTROL: Portion control is how much food your body needs to maintain and fuel your body! Portioning your veggies & carbs in the size of the palm of your hand, fats in quarter size serving, meats and proteins are the size of your fist!
Finding balance in whole foods is ideal to have in your life. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, or are just choosing foods that fuel your body, make sure you’re paying attention to what you need. There is no one single diet that will serve every type of body.
Let’s talk about ‘whole foods.’ What is a whole food? A whole food is, “food that has nothing added, and nothing has been taken away” (Hunter, Beatrice T. 2006). It’s that simple Just like Beatrice Hunter says in her book ‘A Whole Foods Primer’, it’s foods that don’t have anything added to it. Whether that additive is sugar, preservatives, salt, etc. it doesn’t matter; the food shouldn’t have anything taken away from it. Ask yourself, “has it been processed in a way or cooked in a way that takes away from the nutrients that I could have had?” If the answer, is yes or I don’t know double check yourself because that is probably a food that might not be the absolute best to make a part of your “consistency.”
Choosing high-quality proteins and combining other sources of protein to make sure that your body is getting all those essential amino acids that will help to muscle recovery and building.
Also, choosing fats that aren’t working against the body! What type of fats are we looking?
I often suggest fats that will work toward your goals. Fats such as avocado, nuts, nut butter, olive oil, coconut oil, rapeseed, flax, and fish oils are all good fats to include in your everyday diet.
We will talk more about what quality proteins, carbohydrates, and fats do for your body and your health and fitness dreams next time, stay tuned!
